High Spring on the Nature Reserves
Keen trekkers from Year 9 return to Springwell, Stockers, Inns and Bury Lakes during Enrichment Week
A group of keen trekkers from Year 9 headed back to Springwell, Stockers, Inns and Bury Lakes during Enrichment Week and were rewarded with an abundance of nature’s treats. They were serenaded by a cuckoo at Springwell Lake, whilst proud Egyptian geese showed off their goslings at Stockers Lake, swimming together with ducklings and coot chicks. Students had a rare opportunity to get really close to a swan sitting on her nest, who then stood up obligingly and rather coyly showed the group her clutch of eggs… how large they were!
On arrival at Bury Lake, it appeared they were not the only escorted group of youngsters, as one stretch of bank was a teeming mass of baby Canadian goslings!
It was lovely to visit the reserves at this special time of year; the trees bursting with new vibrant green foliage and the fauna provided a perfect backdrop to the sparkling waters of the lakes, home to this wealth of bird life. What a lovely day out!
